Memorial Day weekend is an important time for communities across the western suburbs to come together and honor the men and women who gave their lives while serving in the United States Armed Forces. Throughout Downers Grove and neighboring towns, local veterans organizations, municipalities, and park districts will host parades, remembrance ceremonies, and community events this weekend.
If you are looking for ways to spend Memorial Day weekend with family while also honoring the meaning behind the holiday, here are several local parades and ceremonies happening throughout the area.
The Village of Westmont will host its annual Memorial Day Parade on Monday, May 25, 2026 at 10:30 a.m. The parade travels through downtown Westmont along Cass Avenue before heading east on Richmond Street and ending at Veterans Memorial Park for a Memorial Day ceremony.
The event is a longstanding community tradition featuring veterans groups, local organizations, first responders, and residents gathering to honor fallen service members. Temporary street closures will be in place throughout downtown during the event.
American Legion Post 80 hosts the annual Memorial Day Parade in downtown Downers Grove. The parade traditionally begins at Burlington Avenue and Main Street before traveling south to Fishel Park, where a remembrance ceremony takes place.
The event brings together veterans, scout groups, marching bands, local organizations, and residents from throughout the community to honor those who served. Downtown Downers Grove is one of the western suburbs’ most popular destinations for Memorial Day observances because of its strong community involvement and walkable downtown atmosphere.
Lisle will once again host its Memorial Day Parade and Veterans Remembrance Ceremony on Monday, May 25, 2026. The solemn parade begins at 10:30 a.m. at Lisle Junior High School and proceeds through downtown Lisle before concluding at the Lisle Veterans Memorial.
Following the parade, a remembrance ceremony will take place honoring those who lost their lives in military service. Organizers emphasize that the event is intended to be a respectful observance, with loud noises, candy throwing, and promotional materials prohibited during the parade.
Many neighboring towns throughout DuPage County and the surrounding western suburbs will also host ceremonies and smaller local observances throughout the weekend. Communities including Woodridge, Darien, Clarendon Hills, Hinsdale, Lombard, and Oak Brook often coordinate local remembrance programs through their park districts, VFW posts, and American Legion organizations.
Residents are encouraged to check their local municipality websites and veterans organizations for updated schedules, parade routes, parking information, and ceremony details.
