Halloween Is Happening in Downtown Downers Grove

Halloween is just around the corner, and Downtown Downers Grove is getting into the spooky spirit with several fun events for kids, families, and the whole community.

Whether you’re looking for a Halloween activity throughout the month or planning a full day of family fun, there’s plenty happening in downtown Downers Grove.

Pumpkin Scavenger Hunt | October 1-24

Starting October 1, kids can take part in a Pumpkin Scavenger Hunt throughout downtown Downers Grove. Look for pumpkins hiding in the windows of participating downtown businesses and take note of the accessory each pumpkin is wearing.

Once kids find at least 20 pumpkins, they can bring their completed form to the Downers Grove Public Library to claim a prize. Adults can also get in on the fun by submitting a photo of their completed form for a chance to win $50 in Downtown Downers Grove Gift Certificates. Entries for the adult drawing are due by the end of the day October 26.

It’s a fun way to explore downtown while supporting local businesses along the way.

Halloween Window Painting | October 25

Bring the kids downtown on Saturday, October 25, from 9 a.m. to noon for the annual Halloween Window Painting event.

Hosted in partnership with the Downers Grove Rotary Club, children can pick up paint and decorate designated downtown windows with their Halloween creations. Paint is available on a first-come, first-served basis, and families are encouraged to bring a canned good donation for the Downers Grove F.I.S.H. Pantry.

Don’t forget your paintbrushes, paper towels, a paint shirt or smock, and anything else your little artist might need.

Living Cemetery | October 25

Looking for something a little more historical and a little more spooky? The Downers Grove Historical Society will host its Living Cemetery at Main Street Cemetery on October 25 from 10 a.m. to noon.

It’s a unique way to learn more about local history while getting into the Halloween spirit.

Halloween Costume Contest & Parade | October 26

On Sunday, October 26, head to Fishel Park from noon to 1 p.m. for the annual Halloween Costume Contest & Parade, presented by the Downers Grove Noon Lions Club.

So start thinking about those costumes now. Whether your child wants to be a classic Halloween character, a favorite movie character, or something completely original, this is a great opportunity to show it off.

Downtown Trick-or-Treating | October 26

After the costume contest and parade, keep the Halloween fun going with Downtown Trick-or-Treating from 1 to 3 p.m.

Participating downtown businesses will be handing out treats, making this a fun and easy way for families to spend the afternoon.
