Halloween Happenings in Downtown Downers Grove

Community News September 30, 2025

Pumpkin Scavenger Hunt

October 1 – October 24
Downtown businesses will be hiding little pumpkins in their windows. Your mission: find them and note the accessories they’re wearing. If you spot at least 20, bring your completed form (or have an adult do it) to the Downers Grove Public Library to claim your prize.
Adults aren’t left out—snap a photo of your filled form and email it to [email protected] to enter a drawing for $50 in Downtown Downers Grove gift certificates. (Submission deadline: October 26.)

Halloween Window Painting

October 25 | 9:00 am – 12:00 pm
Join the fun with the Downers Grove Rotary Club to paint Halloween-themed windows throughout downtown. Bring a canned food item to donate to the Downers Grove F.I.S.H. Pantry when you pick up your paints (located at 933A Curtiss Street).
Tips: paint only striped windows, one space per child, and bring brushes, paper towels, a smock, and water for cleanup.

Living Cemetery

October 25 | 10:00 am – 12:00 pm
Presented by the Downers Grove Historical Society, this hauntingly interesting event takes place at the Main Street Cemetery. Enjoy a stroll through history and spooky stories among the gravestones.

Costume Contest, Parade & Trick-or-Treating

October 26

  • Costume Contest & Parade: Fishel Park, 12:00 – 1:00 pm. Hosted by the Downers Grove Noon Lions Club.

  • Downtown Trick-or-Treating: 1:00 – 3:00 pm. Visit participating local businesses for treats and fun. A map will be available closer to the date.

Downtown Downers Grove’s Halloween Happenings offer free (or low-cost) ways to enjoy the season with family and friends. From painting windows to hunting pumpkins and attending parades, it’s a great opportunity to explore local businesses and soak up the autumn charm.
